Oscar nomination for Song Of The Sea

Song Of The Sea, the film I worked on during my internship at Cartoon Saloon, has just been announced as a nominee for the 2015 Oscars!

2 out of 2 is no luck (the first studio's film Secret Of Kells was also nominated). Tomm Moore, the director, is becoming a living legend! Congratulations to the whole crew for doing such a wonderful work of art!!
Very grateful for beinng a tiny part of the effort.
Do yourselves a favour and watch it in the cinema, or buy the DVD when it's out. It's a rare gem with stunning visuals and a touching story.

Animation Mentor challenge

Recently, Animation Mentor had a contest regarding the World Cup 2014. So I thought I'd give it a go. So many awesome entries, it's intimidating but at the same time motivating (like kick in the butt) to look at!

On to news now. I'm in Athens, working for a small animation and vfx studio called Yafka (I can feel the greek people reading this, looking suspicious, because it's a strange name for Greece), doing 3d animation and rigging in 3Ds Max. That was a steep road to take, since I hadn't worked in the program before, plus hadn't done much rigging. But challenge accepted, so I've learned a lot this past month, about rigging and the program as a whole. The studio is involved in very cool projects, for History Channel for example. You can read an old article in CGSociety, here:

Hope everybody is having a great summer out there!!

Cheers,
Dio

Logos

It's refreshing to do different things once in a while. This time it was a logo.

Bachelor film promotional material

I am officially a graduate from The Animation Workshop!! It all happened last Friday, when we got our diplomas.

So since my year's bachelor films - except from ours - are out (Go check em out!), I thought I'd share some of the press kit material I worked on.

Note: The color palette was provided by the director, Johan Steen. The character design was a collaborative effort between the team members. The execution is mine.

Stay tuned for updates about the release of our film. It's looking beautiful!

Character designs

These were done a while ago, and they were part of 3 posters that were done together with my talented designer friend Artemis Tsagari . It took me some time to upload, because I wanted to do some adjustments for the first design. Hope you dig! :)

Girls, girls, girls

I'm alive!

Sorry for the lack of posts, it's due to laziness i admit it... I think this post will make the guys that visit this blog happy (i hope)!

So, news so far... Internship at Cartoon Saloon was awesome, people there are very friendly! I was lucky enough to work on Song of The Sea!
I recently came back to Greece and i worked a bit on another project that the studio is working on, which is called "The Prophet". It's also looking beautiful, but unfortunately i can't show anything, so you'll have to wait.
Now i'm doing my own stuff and preparing for the next gig.

Recently, i've been studying Masters of Anatomy and today i got on a girl-drawing spree.I should be doing animations for my portfolio instead...
Tried a variety of styles. First 3 drawings are from playmate Raquel Pomplun. The other ones, in order of appearance are Greek tv persona Elena Papavasileiou and dancer Maria Antimisari. Not that you'll find any likeness, but just mentioning the inspiration.
Apologizing for the crappy image quality from my scanner, drawings are losing a lot and i probably have to make a digital pass if i wanna put the in my portfolio..

Cartoon Saloon

I was initially going to post artwork, as i mentioned in my previous post, but i got some awesome news from Ireland, three days ago.
Got accepted as an intern at this cool studio called Cartoon Saloon and i'll be starting in July!! I'll probably-hopefully- be working on this beautiful feature film those guys are producing, called Song of The Sea .

So hyped, can't wait to start and get to know all the great talent working for the film already!! Woohooo!!!

Gotta say that i owe a lot to my amazing school, The Animation Workshop, and the beautiful former students that have been at Saloon, that kept it real for us!

For my friends in Greece and abroad: I'll be accepting visits in Kilkenny during the summer 8-D

My new addiction

...is Breaking Bad.
I'm always reluctant to try watching new tv series. But after i start, i can't stop. Happened with Game of Thrones, Fringe, Deadwood, Walking Dead.

In case you don't recognize the girl on the right, that's Kim Kardashian. She's in Greece these days by the way. At the magic island of Santorini, which i haven't managed to visit yet...

Hope you enjoy!
Gonna update with my life lately in the next post. It will also come these days.

Cheers
