Acting week

Massive upload for this weekend. This week's bonus upload is an animation i did as an excercise 2 weeks ago.
We had to do 5 secs animation of an orchestra conductor, based on a piece of classical music. I chose to animate Wagner.
Sorry to any music professionals out there if i killed the piece, as i don't have conducting knowledge.

My favourite project so far, so much fun!

Enjoy:

Croquis

Last Thursday's afternoon croquis session.

Penne prøve week

Do you know what penne prøve means? Me neither... But this was the official name of the last week's course.
We had 5 animation directors coming from the Danish Film School in Copenhagen. They had a 2 min animatic prepared each, we were split in 5 groups of 4-5 animators, and each one had to animate 5 secs from the animatic.

The story:
A girl is in crash with a guy who's throwing a party. She goes at the party with a gift, she gives the gift to the guy, but the guy seems to be uninterested in her presence. She ends up drinking.

Maybe i can upload the animatic later, so you can get the whole picture.

Ps. We had an awesome guy who was the animation supervisor at The Secret of Kells, as a teacher for this week and the previous 1,5 weeks!!

Design week

This week we had a great teacher - Lawrence, teaching us composition. It was very interesting, enlightening, eye opening!

Here is one of the assignments, and an artwork I came up based to this assignment. In the assignment, we had to depict what we felt about chocolate, as a visual element.

Medusa

This is an assignment I have been working for a long time. A lot of corrections and adjustments had to be made, so I ran out of time to make it more smooth. I hope you enjoy it:

Next week it's Design class, so different stuff coming.

Note:
I now have an official portfolio page, where I will be uploading my best works. Here it is:

Little John - Robin Hood

This was an assignment where we had to depict Little John from the Disney movie Robin Hood, as being sad and drinking at a bar. 5 secs should be the duration of the scene, with 5 keyframes at first. I only did the keyframes for this one, as I chose to further animate Medusa from another Disney movie, The Rescuers, as she is a very, very interesting character, animated by the great Milt Kahl!
Here are the keyframes for Little John.

This last week we had to inbetween a scene from Secret of Kells, but I don't think I can post it here, as there would be copyright infridgements I guess . This following week I'll be working on refining Medusa's animation, and hopefully I can bring it close to being smooth.

A thousand faces & Sketchcrawl

To people out there that may be following my blog, I apologize for the lack of updates, but there is zero free time. This week it is autumn holidays for Denmark, so time for relaxation and work also!

Yesterday it was the 29th worldwide Sketchcrawl, and we went downtown at Viborg, in the sunny weather to sketch.
First, I have some faces that i did in a period of several weeks, and then a compilation of sketches from yesterday.

Hopefully, this week I will also upload animation stuff, after I have polished them.

Froggy

These 3 weeks it is about the basics of animation. So, we did bouncing balls of different weight, a ball with tail, and we also had a bigger assignment where we had to do a 10 sec animation with a frog and a fly. Here it goes. I hope you will enjoy it!:

Next big assignment is a 8 sec animation of a miserable ball with a tail.

Pink - collaboration short film

This is our first project at The Animation Workshop, a 4 people collaboration, two from the CGA (Computer Graphic Art) line and two from my line - CA (Character Animation). It was a great experience, and I got to know a lot of people from the CGA line.

The story is about a father whose son likes pink colors, and he asks a pink bike as a birthday present. He worries how people will take his son's difference, even though the father has accepted it. At the birthday party, something interesting happens...

Character design by Adrian Walt and Camilla Gunborg Pedersen
(The awesome) Background design by Adrian Walt and Asdis (can't remember her surname)
Animation by me (first father, and last, scene) and Camilla Gunborg Pedersen

From now and and for 3 weeks, we will be learning the basics of animation, so maybe i'll be posting something interesting.

Bloodthirst

If I was a vampire, I would probably look like this...

This image started as an idea when I saw a tutorial from a friend's ImagineFX. The tutorial was from an awesome artist called Melanie Delon, but don't find her vampire version because you'll disappointed by mine :P
Took me almost ages and an hour, but it was worth it! I feel like I could continue to the infinite refining the painting, but I guess it's time to move on to another one.

Caricature Jam - Groucho Marx

I had a really difficult time with this caricature. Did almost 10 sketches before starting the final one, and yet, I'm not happy result, neither I can call it finished.
Also for some unexplained supernatural reason, my scanner wouldn't scan the page properly.

I'll try to forget this piece and move to the next week's jam which is Carles Puyol, a symbol for the spanish national football team and Barcelona.
But before that, I'll try to finish the self-vampire portrait.

Finally I'm calling finished the second jam. Here are the results (sorry Angelina fans!):

This week's jam: Groucho Marx.
You don't know who this guy is? Me neither...

Caricature Jam - Jimi Hendrix

So, here is an illustration that started as a sketch.
We started with a few friends a weekly jam. There will be a different subject each week (hopefully).

This one was made during a lot of hours. I experimented a lot trying to find a proper way to do things, so I ended with something like this. The second image is the starting sketch.
Linework done with Illustrator, the rest were done in Photoshop. I also used some of these awesome people's brushes: B-a-s-h , circle--of--fire , LMSD , and a few others, that unfortunately, I don't remember where I downloaded them from.

See what my other two friends did: Humphrey and Natalia (hopefully, she will upload her attempt soon)

Next jam: Angelina Jolie. I hope I'll have it ready by Sunday.

The Drawing Academy - The End

God damn, it's hard when something so nice like this ends...Today we had an exposition of drawings, selected by our teacher.

The first days at the Drawing Academy seem so far away now... It was a beautiful trip! I learned a lot of useful things, and I got to know some awesome people!
The level of the class was amazingly high, and this was sometimes intimidating, but motivating also.
I still feel that I have a lot to learn, and I wish I could take more time with classical drawing.

Anyway, here are photos from my drawings. I kept a bit of myself in the photos, so that you can make a comparison of the size of the drawings. Almost all of the long studies, and a lot of the sketches were similar size. For a better quality of the drawings you can check my previous posts here.

Holland & friends

Today I returned from a trip to Holland, to a Van Gogh museum, which is called Kroller-muller museum. It was awesome!

On the bus I did a few quick portraits, so here they are:

Week 21 - Final week of drawing

Yes, I'm really sad to say, but this was the final week of drawing, as next week we're going to a short trip to Holland to a Van Gogh museum, and on Friday we're going to have an exhibition, so there will be a lot of preparation going on.

I also have a portrait long study, which I didn't scan properly, and I will add later. The first drawing here is the final body long study that I do at The Drawing Academy, which I cannot claim entirely mine, because I got a lot of help from my teacher. I think it took around 9 hours to finish.
The second is a 3-hour unfinished study . The next are 5 to 10 mins croquis, and the last one is an unfinished study also.

I started a digital self-portrait painting as a vampire. I'm mentioning this so that I will be more motivated to finish it eventually!

Note for the blog: I have setup the comments so that EVERYONE can comment, not only those who have a gmail account. So, please, feel free to comment, or just say hi :) I would be happy!

Week 20 - Modeling

This week was awesome! It involved modeling with wire and clay, and i got a completely different, refreshed perspective about drawing!

I really enjoyed clay modeling. We never had the time to refine things, because the most we had was 40 mins, which is very short time for clay modeling, and you can only roughly depict things. I took some pics from some of the things i did this week. The most recent are the first ones:

Week 19

Three more weeks to go for the end of the semester, and I don't like it...

This week we continued with the portait and the full body study, but we haven't finished yet. So, here are three pastel sketches. Pastel is a great tool, by the way! I can't remember how long we spent on each one, though:

Week 18

Not much to show from this week. There is a long full body study and a portrait in progress, so i will show them after i'm finished with them.

Here is a long study that is close to finished for my taste, and a decent croquis:
